The Final Countdown [24 Feb 2010|08:40pm]
[ mood | frustrated ]

And, no, I'm not referring to the song (although the Seminary Handbells version was quite amusing). It is 62 days until Call Day and 108 days until we leave for Great Britain!
The call process is making me quite nervous. I'm not sure there is a good church in a good place for us. It seems that actual Lutherans are fewer and farther between.

84 Days! [02 Feb 2010|09:53pm]
[ mood | aggravated ]

Only 84 more days until Call Day. The wait has become practically unbearable. I am a planner. I do not like not knowing what is going on. I should be looking for housing. I should be applying for jobs. (Let me tell you, Call Day being so late is not going to make the teaching-job search easy.) I'm not quite ready to pack up the boxes, but I want to know what is going on with my life. I am not very patient and I don't like surprises. Whoever thought surprising everyone with where their life is going to take them was insane.

156 Days to Call Day!

I'm bored. I can't wait for Wednesday night. It's fun to be home alone for awhile, but, after awhile it gets boring.

157 Days to Call Day! [21 Nov 2009|08:56pm]
[ mood | busy ]

Yesterday we booked airfare to Great Britain for June. I am very excited. I also booked our accomodations in London. The trip we've been planning for three years is finally startng to come together. Now I just hope that the rest of te finances come together. The excitement has definately put a damper on my homework doing plans, however. I'm going to really need to push tomorrow if I'm going to get it done before Thanksgiving.
Working 9 hours a day as a Pre-K teacher and taking 5 credit hours is really starting to take its toll. I feel like I never have time to myself, which is probably also why I haven't done enough homework today. I need a break. (Also why I'm excited for Great Britan!)
Although, the summer, while I won't take a class or work will be hectic enough. It involves going to GB, moving to a yet unknown location, Pete getting ordained and installed, serving as a Community Life Builder at the National Youth Gathering, and findind a new job. Yea, life is not going to calm down for quite some time...

Hey, look at me! I'm actually posting! Again! So, the last month has been completely crazy. Pete and I and our friends Megan and Nathan went camping in Hannibal, MO. We saw some of the Mark Twain sites and went on cave tours of Mark Twain and Cameron Caves. The Cameron Cave tour was a lantern tour and was simply amazing!
The next weekend Pete and I went to Lutherhaven for Family Work Weekend. We did a lot of watersealing and cleaning, but it was a lot of fun and it was wonderful to be back at camp.
Then, Pete went to Michigan and I flew back to St. Louis for the last three days of school. BTW, if you ever get a chance to take a field trip to a landfill, you should definately do it. Then, I flew up to Michigan for Chris and Becky's wedding. It was a good weekend.
Last weekend Pete preached at my grandparents' church in Lebanon. It was nice to see my grandparents, especially since I might not get to see them for more than a year since we are moving to New Jersey.
Chrysti came into town on Tuesday. We went to the Zoo, a Carillon concert, Grant's Farm, Laumeier Sculpture Park, the Science Center, and Shakespeare in the Park (Richard III). Chrysti left yesterday for a wedding. I haven't seen her since Kathy's wedding, so it's been really good.
Oh, and only 9 days until my birthday when I finally have an Ultimate Mudslide!

Ok, so, it's been a really long time since I've really posted. So, here's an update.
First of all, yes, I am still teaching 6th grade English, but only for 10 more days. There are actually 12 days left of school, but I'm taking off the last two days for a wedding. My students open their museum tomorrow. Instead of writing a research paper this year, we hit our research objectives by creating a museum. (As much as I would love to have them write a research paper, it's a disastrous idea. It did not work at all last year. They have absolutely no research skills. Trying to both learn how to research and write a research paper at the same time is too much.) It has been quite the stressful, albeit fun, project. I'm worried that their not going to be done.

Pete finishes his second year of seminary tomorrow. That means that we will start vicarage (like an internship) this next year, so we will be moving to Clark, NJ for 12 months. Clark is a suburb of NYC, so that will be lots of fun. Neither of us know a single person in New Jersey, so it will be an interesting experience. I don't have a job yet, though, so I am a little nervous about that. I HATE applying for jobs.

Well, there is my biannual update. Maybe I'll try to remember to post more frequently. Just maybe.

Merry Christmas! [24 Dec 2007|10:07pm]
[ mood | jubilant ]

Have a blessed Christmas, everyone!

Infant holy, infant lowly,
For His bed a cattle stall.
Oxen lowing, little knowing,
Christ the child is Lord of all.
Swiftly winging, angels singing,
Bells are ringing, tidings bringing:
Chrisr the child is Lord of all!
Christ the child is Lord of all!

Happy Labor Day! [03 Sep 2007|11:10am]
[ mood | complacent ]

I am celebrating my day off from school by doing work around the apartment. Pete is also working today, so it doesn't feel like much of a vacation. But, any vacation from school is always welcome.
On a very positive note, my students are much better this year than last. There are a ton of problems, but most of them aren't student related. I really wish I was in a school/district that supported its teachers. Last year I had more support but more problems with students. This year I have fewer problems with students, but almost no support. I'm ultra frustrated.
What am I thinking about that today for? It's a holiday! No school! Now, if I could only win those Cubs/Cards tickets on Ebay...

Actually, it wasn't that bad. Just far more chaotic than it should have been. I'm hoping things settle down by the end of the week.

Plese don't tell me how it ends. Even though I just bought it, I'm not going to read it tonight. I have to be up early and I have a solo 6 1/2 hour drive tomorrow, so I can't stay up late to finish. Sp, PLEASE don't tell me how it ends! (I think I already know, but please don't tell me!)

I'm going to Camp for the weekend to help out with Family Camp. Three days at camp just isn't going to be enough. I am super excited for camp, but I'm also a little sad. This will be the shortest amount of time I will have spent at camp in a summer since I was eight. I miss camp, and I know I'm not going to want to leave.

My Birthday! [22 Jun 2007|11:00pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

I am now 24 years old. Happy Birthday to me!

I have had a fantasic birthday. Pete bought me flowers and a pedicure. My toenails are now a pretty pink. He also made me a chocolate fudge cake with chocolate frosting. Yumm.
The Cubs won! Woohoo!
We got dressed up and went to Brandt's Cafe and Red Carpet Lounge on the Delmar Loop. The food was good, and it was fun to get all gussied up in my pretty yellow, Marilyn Monroe dress.
We then went to Dave & Busters with Megan, Nathan, Sara, Logan, Laura, and Andy. I love currently having so many friends in town. It feels wonderful, even if only for a short while (since Laura and Andy are leaving for Oklahoma for vicarage soon). After Dave & Busters we all went to Steak 'n Shake for milkshakes and fries.
Could it get any better? Well, I do leave for a cruise on Monday...

One more day! I am all packed up and ready to go, but I have to stay at school until 2:30 anyway. Tomorrow morning the kids will come, we'll watch a movie and sign yearbooks, and they will go home at 10:30. At 10:45 when check-out begins, I will be the first in line. Then I will be going home for the entire summer! Woohoo!

I taught Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday were snow days (that we will unfortunately have to make up at the end of the year. There wasn't more than 3 inches of snow!) Today (Thursday) and Friday I am at the Write to Learn Conference. Yup, it's a bunch of English (and elementary) teachers all in one place. Lots of fun. I have Monday off for President's Day. It's almost like I have a mini holiday! (Except that I had to be at school freakishly early - 5:30am - to lay out sub plans before leaving for the conference. I didn't think to lay out sub plans on Monday atfernoon because I figured we would have school Tuesday and Wednesday. I don't like waking up at 4:45am.)
Plus, Logan and Sara are down this weekend, and it's Laura's wedding shower. Fun times!
Oh, and I wrote today. A lot. I'm comtemplating a novel. I have character sketches for my main two characters done. Now I just need some plot...
And, I'm going to start a book before going to bed. I'm an English teacher, yet I don't ever seem to have time to read and write. :(
